Fostering an Assistance Dog

Sam and Harrison have fostered and trained some amazing dogs through Dogs for Life. We've found it an incredibly rewarding and educational experience. We've been able to love a puppy and help out someone with a disability at the same time.

Dogs for Life works with specifically trained dogs within mutually defined programs, to assist people to achieve predefined therapeutic goals and to create a lasting partnership that aims to improve quality of life, enhance independence and facilitate increased participation in society.

What are the duties of a foster family?

  • Provide a warm, loving and secure home for our puppy in their first year.
  • Follow our rules regarding the treatment and interactions with the puppy
  • Being with the puppy big part of the day
  • Saying goodbye to the puppy after about a year

What are the benefits of fostering a puppy?

  • Doing an AMAZING thing for someone in your community with a disability that will change their life
  • Having the most adorable, funny creature in your home, providing you and your family with heaps of love and fun
  • No cost to you for all dog care, including food, toys and health care.
  • Dogs for Life trains the puppy for around an hour a day, so not only will your adopted puppy be superbly trained, but you can also learn how to do it yourself!
